GEORGIA, Vermont, March 13, 2023 — Voters of Northwest Vermont Solid Waste District (NWSWD) member towns approved authorization for the District to borrow up to $1.5 million to finance the cost of renovating the NWSWD Georgia Recycling Facility. Voters passed the bond measure, 3879-1828, on the 2023 Town Meeting Day ballot. NWSWD will supplement the $1.5 million with funds from reserves and grants. The District are in the process of finalizing the design and permitting, and expect to begin construction at the end of 2023.
“I would like to thank the voters of Franklin and Grand Isle counties for passage of this bond approval,” said John Leddy, NWSWD’S Executive Director. “The project to renovate our Georgia Recycling Center will have a positive impact on the waste management of our District. This project will improve public drop-off to make it more efficient and safer. It will allow us to serve more customers, and it will allow us to expand our programs and divert more waste from the landfill through new and expanded recycling programs.”
